Ruby M. (O'Brien) Hall

August 16, 1931 ~ January 23, 2018 (age 86)

Ruby M. (O’Brien) Hall, 86, of Rome, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 23, 2018 in the Rome Memorial Hospital Residential Healthcare Facility with her loving family by her side.

            She was born on August 16, 1931 in Alder Creek, NY, a daughter of the late Frank and Lumilla Tiff O’Brien. On July 15, 1948, Ruby was united in marriage to Albert Hall; a blessed union of 31 years until his passing which occurred on July 28, 1979. She retired from New York State DDSO in 1986 after 25 years of dedicated service.

Ruby volunteered for many years at Rome Memorial Hospital and donated to animal rescue organizations. She truly loved the outdoors and all of nature especially while walking, hiking, and riding her motorcycle. Ruby also was a very artistic and creative person and enjoyed painting and writing poetry.

            Ruby is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, David Hall of Ava and Edward and Angela Hall of Durhamville; three cherished granddaughters, Brandi Hall-McCanney of Ava, Theresa and Nick Toepp of Rome, and Amy Hall of Albany; five great grandchildren, Ariana, Alysia, Ethan, Lucas, and Autumn;  a sister, Virginia Kogut; a caring former daughter-in-law, Patricia Hall; and several nieces and nephews.

            She was preceded in death a brother, Frank O’Brien; a grandson, Adam Hall; and a great grandson, Elliot Toepp.

            Mrs. Hall’s graveside service will be held in the Spring in Westernville Cemetery.

            Relatives and friends are invited to call on Saturday from 3:00 to 5:00P.M. at the Gulla Funeral & Cremation Services, Inc., 209 N. Washington St., Rome, (336-5700).

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Humane Society of Rome, 6247 Lamphear Rd., Rome, NY 13440.

The family extends their heartfelt appreciation to the entire staff at both Rome Memorial Hospital Residential Healthcare Facility and The Terrace at Woodland for the wonderful care and concern for Ruby and her family.
