Rose M. (Taverna) Stannard, 96, of Rome, passed away peacefully in Bethany Gardens Skilled Living Center. She was born on December 6, 1920 in Rome; a daughter of the late Antonio and Josephine Rizzuto Taverna and was raised and educated locally. On January 27, 1940 in St. John the Baptist Church, Rose was united in marriage to Lyle Stannard, Sr.; a blessed union of almost 40 years until his passing which occurred on March 2, 1980. She worked in the kitchens of both Rose and Rome Memorial Hospitals and was well known for her delicious pies and Italian cookies. Rose is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Joyce Caruso of Rome and Dianne and Michael Dobbins of New Richmond, OH; two daughters-in-law, Agnes and her husband, John Smoot of Springfield, OH and Sandy Stannard of Utica; many cherished grandchildren and great grandchildren; a brother, Angelo Taverna of CA; three sisters-in-law, Angie Taverna of Waterloo, Gloria Taverna of FL, and Betty Taverna of AL; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by three sons, Lyle, Jr., Gerald, and Harold Stannard; a son-in-law, John Caruso; two sisters, Cora LeBlanc and Ida Rossi; and seven brothers, Joe, Tony, Pat, Phil, Sam, Frank, and Ned Taverna. The family extends their heartfelt appreciation to Candi, Butch, and Andy DeCarolis for all of their love and support and to Kevin, Marissa, and Cliff at Bethany Gardens their care and concern shown to Rose and her family. In keeping with Mrs. Stannard's wishes funeral services will be private for the family. Interment will be in St. Peter's Cemetery.
