Miranda Sage Gifford

November 10, 1998 ~ November 1, 2017 (age 18)

Miranda Sage Gifford, 18, of Rome, passed away on Wednesday, November 1, 2017 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

She was born on November 10, 1998 in New Hartford, a daughter of Connie Schnell Gifford and Mark Gifford. Miranda was a 2016 graduate of Rome Free Academy. She continued her education at Mohawk Valley Community College and was a current student at Broome County Community College majoring in Homeland Security. Miranda was employed at Price Chopper in Rome while she was attending MVCC.

Miranda loved to play and watch all sports but especially shined while playing basketball, softball, and bowling. Although she loved sports, Miranda was so much more than an athlete. She cherished time spent with her family and especially loved being a wonderful aunt to her nephews with whom she had a very special bond. Miranda enjoyed all of her modern technology and loved music, especially hip hop. Her friends were extremely important to her and she loved to meet new ones. Miranda loved to make all of her family, friends, and acquaintances laugh with her quirky antics. She was a loving and giving person and continued that, in her death, as an organ donor.

Miranda is survived by her parents, Connie Gifford and Mark Gifford, both of Rome; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Mandy and Nick Sandt of Hebron, MD and Melody Gifford of Erin, NY; a brother and sister-in-law, Jimmy and Kalee Gifford of Tulsa, OK; three nephews, Logen, Cole, and Zachary; maternal grandmother, Phyllis Schnell; paternal grandparents, Fred and Theresa Gifford of Bourbonnais, IL; aunts and uncles, Patty and Mike Hatch, Dave and Alyssa Gifford, Fred Jr. and Robin Gifford, Cindy Gifford, Donnie and DeeDee Gifford, Bruce Gifford, Jimmy and Karla Gifford, Danny and Sherri Gifford, and Marie Ozturk; many loving cousins; and numerous wonderful friends.

She was preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, Glen Schnell in 2016.

Miranda’s funeral service will be held on Thursday, November 9, 2017 at 11:00A.M. at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 502 W. Chestnut St., Rome. Interment will follow in St. Peter’s Cemetery.
