Marta J. Wood, 67, of Greenwich, passed away on Sunday, May 27, 2012 in Saratoga Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born on July 10, 1944 in Glen Ridge, NJ; a daughter of the late Jabez and Ester Van Cleef Wood. Following graduation from high school she attended Bethany College in West Virginia. Marty received a Bachelor's Degree in Liberal Arts and was selected as the Who's Who among students. Marta began work as an art teacher but realized her calling was with animals. Marta was a veterinarian assistant with the Oneida Animal Hospital for many years. In 1993 she moved to Greenwich and was employed with Battenkill Veterinary Hospital. An avid horse woman since the age of 8, Marta retired to fulfill her dream of owning a horse farm. For the past 20 years she owned and operated Heir Wood Farms. Marta was a talented but humble artist with an incredible gift for creativity. She was an exceptional writer. She enjoyed knitting, line dancing, and talking politics. She adored her miniature daschunds and was passionate about politics and the country. She treasured her family and friends and they were at the heart of her home and future dreams.She is survived by her loving daughter and son-in-law, Kirsten and Matt Wood of CO; two cherished grandchildren, Cloey and Sophie Wood; two sisters, Dona G.W. Vernon of Avon Lake, OH and Sally Wood Simons of Sheffield, VT; niece and nephews, Kathe Hallwachs, Doug Vernon, Stephen Vernon, David Vernon and their families; and her dear friend Dottie Reames and her family.
