Charles A. Bole, Sr., 79, of Rome, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, December 10, 2011 after a courageous battle with COPD. He was born on January 25, 1932 in Sharon, PA; a son of the late John Bole and Claire Stauffer and was educated in Sharon. He faithfully served his country in the United States Air Force. On February 7, 1950 in Cumberland, MD; Charlie was united in marriage to the former Barbara Farrar. He often joked that in their 61 years of marriage he recalled only one argument, it just never ended! He owned and operated B & H Carpets for several years. Charlie then worked at the Marcy Psychiatric Center, retiring after 30 years of dedicated employment. Charlie was a devoted family man to his wife, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He enjoyed golfing at Sleepy Hollow Golf Course where he made many lasting friendships. Golf was truly his passion and was a master of the short game. On September 26, 2007 on hole ten, Pa made history when he had his first and only hole in one, a feat he was only too happy to recount time and time again to whomever would listen. Charlie was an enthusiastic New York Giants fan. He enjoyed history and debating politics. He never met you when he didn't have a joke or story to tell, even though chances are you may have already heard it several times. He is survived by his wife, Barbara; a daughter, Mrs. Terry (Bonnie) Goetz; a son, Charles Bole, Jr., all of Rome; four cherished grandchildren whom he truly loved and thought of as his own, Julie Summa, R. Terry and his wife, Aimee Goetz, C. Allen Bole, III, and Marcus Bole; and their significant others, Rose and Margie. Charlie was also blessed with four great grandchildren who without a doubt were the greatest joys of his life and made him smile every day, P.J. Summa and Brady, Cole, and Griffin Goetz; a brother and sister-in-law, Kenneth and Dahline Boles; a special little girl whom he and Barbara cared for as a baby, Emma Ziegler; canine companions, Cain and Flutie; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and in-laws. Charlie was preceded in death by a brother Thomas Bole; a son in-law, R. Terry Goetz, and a daughter in-law, Shirley Bole. A special thank you to Drs. Michael Apostolakos and Anthony Pietropaoli from Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester for the outstanding care and compassion shown to our family.
